Kathleen asks: Do we get our spiritual bodies when we die or when the Lord returns?
Father Pete: The short answer is that we receive our glorified bodies at the “general judgement” when Christ comes again. At that time there will be a resurrection of all bodies to be joined with all souls, those saved to go to heaven, those damned to go to hell. After we die we experience our “particular judgement” and our soul goes to Heaven, Purgatory (temporarily) or to hell. Therefore, even those in Heaven await Christ’s second coming to receive the fullness of glory in the resurrected body.
