How can a Bishop excuse us from Sunday Mass and then tell us to go again? Isn’t it God’s Third Commandment?
Yes, it is a commandment of God to honor the Sabbath day. The apostles with the authority given to them realized that the Sabbath was no longer the 7th day, Saturday, but Sunday because of Jesus’ Resurrection. Just as the apostles and their successors, the Bishops have authority to change the day, so they also have the authority to temporarily dispense of the obligation for serious reasons (like pandemics).
Therefore, it is time for all Catholics to return to Mass on Sunday’s and on Holy Days of Obligation. This is both a joyful privilege and a serious moral obligation.
